Extreme Climate Award for NK Windows

At a recent Innovation Conference in India hosted by our German profile supplier, Aluplast GmBH, we won the top Project Award in the Climatic Conditions category.

The award was for windows supplied to Antarctica New Zealand for the Hillary Field Centre Extension and refurbishment at Scott Base. Martin Ball (Director of NK Windows) says, “we are proud to supply our windows to support New Zealand’s Antarctica program, in to what is one of the harshest climates in the world”.

The main challenges were ensuring a superior thermal performance, and an accurate product that allows the project team to quickly install the windows on site in difficult, windy and cold conditions. This was achieved using uPVC window frames from German manufacturer Aluplast, combined with locally supplied triple glazed glass with double low emissivity coatings (Low E) and argon gas. Combined they give an R rating of greater than 1.2. This same technology is available for residential customers in New Zealand as well.

The windows were fabricated in our Hornby factory.
